Commander's Comfort

v0.5.0 made space feel big. v0.6.0 makes it feel comfortable. This release is all about quality of life: controlling time, seeing your colony grow, and a smoother experience from minute one.

Time speed controls

Waiting for a building to finish? Watching ore trickle in? Hit the 2x or 4x speed buttons to fast-forward through the slow parts. The game automatically drops back to 1x when something important happens, so you won't miss a crisis.

Camera pitch

Hold Shift and scroll to tilt the camera above the ecliptic plane. Now you can get a strategic overhead view of the entire belt, or drop back down to the action. It's a small control that changes how the game feels.

Visual base growth

As you build, instanced modules now appear around your base asteroid. Solar panels, factories, habitats — they're all visible, growing outward as your colony expands. Your progress is no longer just a number on a HUD; it's something you can see.

The best games respect your time. Time controls, visual feedback, and a smoother first five minutes — this is the version where CotB starts feeling like a game, not a tech demo.

Under the hood

The render loop got a serious cleanup — per-frame allocations eliminated, p95/p99 diagnostics added. Mid-range hardware should hold a steady 60fps now. The new player experience was also audited and improved: better tutorial flow, clearer resource hints, and less confusion in those critical first five minutes.

Cultures of the Belt is free to play. Pay what you can if you like what you find in the rocks.
