Precursors v0.3.0 — Music, Folklore, and a World That Listens
This is the biggest Precursors release since launch. The world now has music — not ambient background tracks, but songs that belong to specific creatures, drawn from their cultural lineage, that play on game events and fade into silence if no living creature of that species remains. The world listens to who's in it.
Creatures have cultural music
Norns now carry songs from their species. Each creature has an emotion-weighted algorithm that selects songs based on its biochemical state — a Norn that's calm and well-fed will play differently than one in distress. Baby Norns play their own infant sounds. Music buffers before game start and recovers automatically when browsers block autoplay after the first gesture.
The music player ships with full transport controls: play, pause, skip, volume, and the name of the current song. Creatures relay speech to nearby Norns for social communication — the world is no longer silent in the gaps between events.
22 folklore species completed
The full folklore pipeline — art, language, songs, and cultural identity — is now complete for 22 species: Huldryn, Kelpathi, Duppy, Adzefire, Garuda-Vel, Aswali, Nommo, Anansi-Web, Ven'thari, Selkie-Born, Leshyn, Cher-Khan, Egúngún-Kin, Djinn-Ahl, Peri-Veil, Quetzali, Raksha, Ukten, and more. Each species has a complete cultural identity that feeds into the game's genetic and cognitive systems. This is the backbone of Precursors as a world — not just a creature sim, but a living archive of something that might once have been real.
The ship now requires intelligence to enter
The ship discovery and door-entry mechanic now gates on creature intelligence. You cannot get a Norn into the ship by brute force — the species has to earn it. Upper-tier lifts are also locked at game start, unlocking after five minutes of play. The world has structure now, not just content.
Marginalia Overlay, Phase 3
The ghost-reader lore system continues. Phase 3 adds impressions at the world margins — notes in the handwriting of something that was here before. If you explore the edges, you'll find them.
Stability
The creature starvation bug that was killing entire populations on startup is fixed. The sprite loader has been repaired — spriteless species no longer spawn as invisible entities. Canvas fallback sprites are gone; everything is PNG now, loaded with a proper progress bar. Ruins render behind the ground layer. The feedback form submits reliably. Server-side Matrix auth proxy is in place so tokens never touch the browser.
